Default Clan badge?

Could someone identify this badge? It appears to be a clan pin. The Latin motto is attributed to the Clan Campbell, but the central device is not the typical device.

"DO NOT FORGET TO BE CARING"..... motto translated.

Might have this connection?
John Douglas Sutherland Campbell was the 9th Duke of Argyll....... When still the Marquess of Lorne,he and Princess Louise returned from Canada in 1883 following his role of Governor general of that Country. Lord Lorne did not become the 9th Duke until the death of his father in 1900. Princess Louise was the Colonel in Chief of "her" Regiment, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

This is the livery button to the couple. There are plenty of differences.

Not if you look at the Heraldry in the button The badge above is earlier than the button according to the heraldry.

The Button contains the quatered arms of the child of the marriage ....first born son by the "label". Within the quarterings you will see the ship on the distaff side (Mums)..... therefore the badge above is older than the button. The Other Arms within the button are the Royal arms (as seen in the badge) ....with a label as a mark of cadence..... so the father is still alive .... therefore this livery button is for the first son/child by the look of it?

Furthermore (Blazon):-

Quarterly, 1st & 4th: Gyronny of eight or and sable (Campbell); 2nd & 3rd: Argent, a lymphad or ancient galley sails furled flags and pennants flying gules and oars in action sable (Lorne)

Therefore, the badge above most definatley contains the arms of Lorne The Other Royal Arms must belong to Princess Louise? And the Clan Campbell crest and motto

* It would not be unusual for Lord Lorne to use the Lorne arms until he actually became the Duke, being the junior title. The livery button looks to contain the official arms because of the mark of cadence and the proper arms of the Duke therein (and the Royal Arms of his wife, Princess Louise).

So my "guess" is that the badge above belonged to a member of the staff ....... of the Marquess of Lorne whilst he was Governor General of Canada prior to 1900.
