Here is one of my rarest Canadian Officers badges. A Officers Service Dress Kangaroo (1st Canadian Armoured Carrier Regiment) badge. So far there are10 known. There are a ton of fake OR badges out there but they are easy to spot. The scan of the backs shows the difference in construction. The badges on either side are post-war badges or fakes (depending on who you read or speak to.) In this case this is a rare and valuable badge as there were never many made regardless of for officers or ORs and the regiment was in existance for a short period of time.

Alan,
here is the 25th Frontiersmen ,1st pattern, back pic ,as requested, & sooner than first estimated. All available pics show the lettering varies in relation to the folds, as would be expected with the way they were supposedly made. The only other 2 examples that I have seen are exactly the same as mine, in construction. The attaching strip looks to have been made from the same sheet of metal as the scroll. The origional GG grenade is always that same style (same supplier here) also, I have always assumed that the enameled version(so-called 3rd pattern) was for Officers & senior NCOs. But this is only my own opinion, with the available info. Having seen collars for this type as well ,this makes me lean towards this assumption also. Another puzzle is with the 2nd pattern. Why is it always shown, in books, as bronzed (as origional pictures show Officers caps & collars to have been), but these pics also always show o/r's as wearing polished brass versions ? Have one of these ,with the appropriate space under the grenade( & a long slider), but cannot say if it is origional or not ,with any certainty here. I seem to recall you have one also ? Any more thoughts there ? Cheers ! Steve Last edited by dragonz18; 15-01-08 at 09:06 AM. |

This is a bit like playing top trumps in the skool yard!
Here's Molesworth's entry: This turned up along with a group of Egyptian badges from a seller in Israel. I had a search on the net and found this Arab Media Watch: Sudan History "First Civil War The first Sudanese civil war lasted 17 years (1955-1972). The British failure to ensure equity for both the north and south in the Sudanese civil service and administration contributed to the impasse. The Arab-led Khartoum government reneged on promises to southerners to create a federal system, which led to a mutiny by the Equatoria corps in Torit. Rather than surrender to Sudanese government authorities, many mutineers disappeared into hiding with their weapons, marking the beginning of the first war in southern Sudan. By the late 1960s, the war had resulted in the deaths of about 500,000 people. Several hundred thousand southerners went into hiding in the forests, or escaped to refugee camps in neighbouring countries. By 1969, the rebels had developed foreign contacts to obtain weapons and supplies. Israel trained the Anya Nya, a south-Sudanese separatist movement, and shipped weapons via Ethiopia and Uganda to the rebels. The Anya Nya also purchased arms from Congolese rebels and international arms dealers with monies collected in the south and from among southern Sudanese exile communities in the Middle East, Western Europe and North America. The rebels also captured arms, equipment and supplies from government troops. Militarily, the Anya Nya controlled much of the southern countryside, while government forces occupied the region’s major towns. The guerrillas operated at will from remote camps. etc etc" So we have a cap badge from an Israeli trained South Sudanese rebel group! What's more the Anya Nya morphed into the Janjaweed groups who are at present harrassing civilians in that part of the world. One of the worst is called the "Buffalo Brigade"! Eddie (With apologies to those not privileged to read Up with Skool etc! |

Frank,
That is a very good price for a 3rd Bn one. I am not sure why but delaers are currently asking £150 for the 1st Bn, £200 for the 2nd Bn and £250+ for the 3rd Bn. I was not aware that they were raised that far apart or lasted any longer than another? Alan |

O&B ,& others......
forgotten I'd posted that, for a while there ! Anyhow, here's some more pics of the same badge........should be flat backed (cast)& feathers seperate, but there may be some with them attached also. ? I believe that some un-named versions exist also. I believe the feathers have a higher silver content than the badge here. Backing is the correct Tartan as well. O&B ,'Tiping'= typing ? That threw me for a while there ! Tiping is excused !! Cheers ! Steve PS: Administrator, please feel free to use the pic of the manufacturer's lable on the 'Maker's marks' site, if you wish !
