Default Scottish lion on MkII helmet

Hi,
I have this 1942 dated MkII helmet with what looks like a Scottish lion painted insignia, on top of the lion two letters : "N.O."
What connection may it be ? What do the letters "N.O." stand for ?
Regards

"NO" - joke insignia referring to the referendum on Scottish independence?

It looks more like the Dutch Republic Lion. Maybe the 'N' stands for Netherlands?

Thanks for your comment Leigh ! I have found the helmet well before the referendum and the full stops after the "N" and the "O" let me think more of an acronym...
Kind regards

Hi, thanks for your welcome answer.
Military speaking the Netherland lion carries a sword and arrows, that why I wonder about his Scottish origins...

3 new possibilities for the "N.O." :
- N.O. : Navigating Officer
- N.O. : Normal Operating
- N.O. : Norway (in this case the "Norwegian Mountain Infantry Brigade" within the Scottish Command during WW2)
Still searching
