Just the like the 'Jewish Bde' badge, this has been the subject of much discussion without any conclussion other than it is a common fake.

Thanks Alan
Not sure what you mean by the Jewish one's, as I'm just getting into badge collecting of British regiments after years of Axis collecting, awards etc.
I'm going to put up some more today and try and get some opinions before I decide to make an offer. Regards Simon. |

I got one of these in a job-lot some years ago. It was purported to be 1st Royal Devon Militia. I assume, like mine, it is a fake, but the only real way of fiding out would probably be to visit the museum - I visited the various Royal Irish regimental museums scattered around NI to do this (back in the late 70's/80's etc). Surprisingly, some of them also had re-strikes etc on display - but at least they were aware of it.

1 RDM Bugle horn badge
I remember this badge being sold (along with others) by a chap called jim Luck in the 1970s. The others included the infamous 42nd cross belt plate, the Royal Irish Rifles cross belt plate and the South Wales Borderers post 1881 glengarry badge - the best of all being the last one - at least it was struck to almost the correct gauge of metal. I am sure many forum members will know the series of badges sold at the time - Jim Luck boasted at having hundreds of each variety (all 'genuine' of course !!!).
