It was collected by my grandfather in the late 1940s so it is absolutley 100% no doubt about it genuine. He had 108 badges and ticked them off in a 1941 booklet on badges. They were in my great grandfather's house from 1948 onwards and not added to after then. You just don't get any better provenance than that. Even a badge from a veteran's estate is occasionally suspect as they may have bought it as a replacement to wear for reunions.

Smile Recce corps

An interesting point that I made some years ago to a dealer who I think lives in Yorkshire.
I have an all white metal RECCE cap badge with a rose not superimposed, but cut into the spear and lightning flashes. This is a superb piece of workmanship, which as a badge repairer, I know is difficult to execute.
He said that the genuine 49th Div RECCE badges had a white metal rose, superimposed onto the white metal badge, something that is an easy option to do.
My question to members of this forum are:
1. How many badges have you seen with the rose cut into the spear and lightning flashes.
2. How many with the rose superimposed onto the spear and flashes.

I would be very interested in members opinions on this subject as I have never been fully convinced by the Yorkshire dealers opinion.

Hi there,

My Example of the 49th Div RECCE badges has white metal rose superimposed onto the spear and flashes.
My Silver Gilt Example Recce Corp is a two piece badge Silver Spear and the title added.
