this one i already have it!on mine (first shown in this thread) MARS has exactly the same juvenile spots on the face!! a young fake!!

One of the big tells on the fake is Minerva's face, a huge protruding chin, a nose that could double as a sun dial and wild staring eyes. Would you go out with a girl with a face like that? Now, this is a girl that you could take home to me your dear old mum, wholesome and fair of face.

I agree with Simon, that fake badges do frequently have the distended chin. However, not all badges with this characteristic are fakes/copies. There is a photograph of Wilfred Owen, wearing just such a badge.

i do think there is an original "big chin" pattern .the one worn in the photo of Wielfried Owen seems to have a feature that fakes do not have

I agree with you, not very keen on it's reverse, but, to be quite honest, I have always thought actually getting hold of an original that is pleasing to the eye is very difficult.

Indeed, notwithstanding, I would think that those particular men did not produce the dies from which the actual badges were manufactured.

The collecting of fake badges is no more or less worthwhile than the collection of "real" ones. A collection is a collection be it 19th century postage stamps, telegraph poles or worms.

In this case it could possibly be argued that the collection & identification of fakes is potentially more rewarding as it involves as much if not more detective work & there are just as many stories to be discovered.

If posters look on this forum, there are probably more words dedicated to fakes than to the real thing!

Would you collect fake Rolexes? Fake anything, other than badges?

whilst fakes of any nature are intrinsically worthless, many dealers find the sale of them quite profitable,
