Paul gives great advice in saying Research, Research and more Research is the order of the day. Look on the internet for sites with collections of insignia such as Imperial War Museum where the image attached to Paul's post is found. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections - images and items Also For Royal Marine items https://www.google.co.uk/?gfe_rd=cr&...historical.com For Combined Operations insignia etc http://www.combinedops.com/INSIGNIA%20SPECIMENS.htm For Commandos http://www.commandoveterans.org/ particularly the picture gallery http://gallery.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/main.php For special forces related issues http://www.specialforcesroh.com/browse.php A lifetime is never long enough to learn all we need to know about this subject and the jeopardy of fakes makes it imperative to spend lots of time researching, researching and researching. The financial implications are such that research in these areas of collecting are arguably amongst the most essential. A good library is also a good investment - look at contemporary images etc BUT - Always be aware that whatever source you use there is likely to be errors and unfortunately only experience is likely to help you in this respect. It is far better that authors etc say ... it is likely ..., or ... based on ... rather than making definitive statements that are wrong. The truth is a lot of uncertainties do exist and some mysteries are unlikely to be solved. Hence the need for a 'query' box. All the best Mike |

It is one of the Pakistan fakes which started emerging in the early noughties; some (not this one) look quite good from the front, but the "spaghetti" on the back raises a clamorous alarm.

Paul gives a sound advice, research is the key unless you have money to burn. A similar fake recently sold on ebay for just over 100 GBP!
