16th Queens Westminster & Civil Service Rifles
Here is an Officers badge to the 16th Queens Westminster & Civil Service Rifles (KK 1846 page 443), it has no residue of paint and is in White metal, K&K mentions made in W/M but who wore this? a Territorial Officer? and as all previous badges I have seen have been blackened (O/R, s) badges admittedly, why would this have escaped being painted? would this have seen service on the front or kept only for formal wear?
Thanks in advance for any help! billy |

Billy,
a lovely post 1922 badge and being silver would have been for Dress Uniform, not Battle or Service Dress! Worn in the coloured Forage Cap and not the Khaki SD Cap. They were a "Territorial" unit so all the officers would be such! Andy |

It should be blackened but someone's been cleaning it and if you look at your picture it still has traces.

Hi Andy / Magpie, not marked as Silver Andy but it is gruby and having just rubbed it over a newspaper it has left a black smudge, could be dirt rather than it being Silver (do I clean it!!!!???) The metal has blackened naturally can, t actually see paint not like on KRRC badges?
Am going to have to clean this I guess, result if Silver it is more gruby than painted Magpie! Thanks though for your thoughts billy |

It should be Blackened not painted like an O/R's badge to match the of the fittings on the uniform.

I could be wrong but I doubt your badge has ever been anything other than the colour/finish it presently is! I would leave it absolutely as it is. Andy |
