Default 3rd Australia shoulder title?

Hi all
I saw a pair of blackened curved Australia shoulder title with '3rd' attached above centrally. The '3rd' was small. The ticket attributed these to the 3rd battalion AIF ww1.
Can anyone shed any light on these. Wish I had took pic.
Kind regards
Dan

Hi Rob,

Ive now dug mine out, I have a group of 3 being 2/INF/AUSTRALIA.

I got this many years ago from one of the long term UK dealers.

The 2 and INF have 2 round dark copper lugs, however the AUSTRALIA has 2 flat topped Y shaped lugs that are brass looking and looking at it from the back the left A and the A between the I and the R have nice little round holes at the bottom, its very noticeable in the 2nd one. All 3 are flat backed.

I have also seen a photo of WW1 Diggers wearing the number and INF on their collars in place of a collar dog rising sun, but would not now know where to find the photo.

I hope that this helps.

Regards Phil.

Hi Rob
Yes mate but I will have to send them to your email which I have. You are welcome to then post them to the Forum.

PS, Rob I have now also dug out some more little bits, 1 x figure 1, 2 x figure 2, but they are sightly different sizes and the letters INF which is maker marked Stokes at the top and MELB at the bottom. At the same time I picked up 3 x brass letter A for Anzac which was worn on the colour patch by men who had fought on Gallipoli and a pair of brass R for reserve. These all came from an antique centre in the Dandenongs about 2 or 3 years ago at $5.00 each. Bargain !! I will photo these tomorrow and email them to you.

Regards

Phil.
