Hi could you tell me just what this might have been used for? Band perhaps?

My guess is a plaque badge.

Could it be a glengarry badge?

Here's a pic I found of the RACT Pipes and Drums.

Unfortunately its difficult to see what badge they are wearing in the picture.

I have the front part of the badge only, and it has clutch pins as if it is supposed to fit on head dress. We had a post about it maybe five years ago and I think someone posted a scan of a British equivalent. They may well be plaque badges.
I would be interested in the complete badge if it is available.

Hi and thanks for your thoughts, the Band option is where I think this is, the Badge in the picture though not clear is definitely large?

Kingsley, it has Pins for Clutch fittings the Star is really nicely made Crown cushioning is textured? Looks good! Very large holes for the pins! They really didn't need to be so large!

Unfortunately bottom of badge has enamelling chipped but otherwise it is good, and not that noticable, what era is it from actually? Is it in usage to date? and it would be nice to see a photo being worn!

All the best billy

I very much doubt if it is a band badge. In 2011 the government unforgivably disbanded (a very appropriate term) most of the Australian army bands including some very old and famous Scottish ones. The RAR museum in Townsville has an amazing bullion embroidered Drum Major uniform, also a number of unique busbys with very large skippy badges.

Thanks, I just expect to see screw-posts rather than Clutch-pins, they do not look strong enough, and the Plaque would need recesses to ensure fitting below the rear of it? so as to be flush to wall if mounted, Pity about the Bands being disbanded, guess it was to fo with money? Many thanks Billy
