112 "Shark" Fighter Squadron Enamel Badge
Hi all. I picked this up with a lot of badges. Appears to be attributed to 112 Fighter Squadron, famous for being the first Allied unit for sporting the classic sharks teeth on the front of their planes.
This is of course not the official squadron badge which features a cat in reference to the squadrons time in Egypt. I am not sure if this is a sweetheart item or what, but does it show an earlier version of the 112 Squadron badge? Perhaps one that was thought up but not officially approved? Any opinions on this would be appreciated. Many thanks. |

Nice item , private purchase , could have been for sweetheart or for a souverner.
This would not have been worn in uniform officially . Cheers Steve |

Many thanks for your reply Steve. I suspected that it was a private purchase sweetheart but good to get it confirmed. I am still interested in the origins of the design itself. I wonder if this was a semi- official design before the cat badge or whether someone just dreamed it up and commissioned it as a one off. Many thanks.

Now that is very nice, I think that I have only ever seen one other example.
