RLC gilt badge
Hello,
I have a gilt RLC badge without the silver coloured centre, it’s quite heavy compared to other modern badges, weighing 17g. Is it some kind of variant or a copy? I didn’t find any comparison searching here or online except for an all silver anodised version http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...light=logistic and the company (London Badge & Button Co. Ltd.) being mentioned here http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=29448. Tony |

I think this is the rushed out 20th Anniversary (2013) badge issued to all RLC Soldiers.
Or is it the earlier 10th Anniversary (2003) badge? Or just a very worn example. If I am wrong I will soon be corrected. Marc Last edited by 54Bty; 29-01-16 at 04:09 PM. |

It is a new one on me, not seen this one. Maybe fatboy ken will know the answer.
If it becomes available for sale I would be interested please? Jerry.

Blimey! Thanks for the replies.
I thought it would be a simple thing like the rushed out 10th or 20th anniversary reply or even a bubble gum machine badge. I'm pleased to have something unusual, at least for the time being. The RCT didn't have any anniversary cap badge did they? Tony |

I have done a search in to this badge and found that it is VERY similar to a LB&B Co Ltd badge I have. Of 1 pc construction with slider. It would seem that the "silver" colour of the centre of your badge has worn off, mine retains this.
The RLC issued a 10th anniversary badge in 2003 but I cannot find any information of a 2013 issue. As always if more info comes forward ......

Interesting.
I've checked the centre with a loupe and can find no trace of remains of silver whatsoever. Could it have slipped through quality control? Tony |

Quite possible, it happens now and then.

The approval to wear Cloth Beret Badges on the working dress beret was withdrawn at the same time, as were some coloured OR badges with sliders & collars which were circulating at the time, these continue to be used by the RLC Band & Corps of drums. The anodised TKS beret badged was slowly withdrawn so that everyone ended up with 2 metal badges by the end of the year. No further design change other than suppliers were made after that. I am looking for any Sealed Patterns to the RAOC and RLC if anyone has any spare?? |

I have bid against Jerry & Fatboy Ken in the past, as you say, you have no way of knowing.

It seems my informant was incorrect and it was a special postmarked pictured envelope that was issued (sold) for the 20th Anniversary. I should have checked myself instead of relying on the intel.
Apologies Marc |
