Default Civil Service Unit

I have a shoulder title to a South African unit serving I believe during WWII.
The title is to the "Civil Service Unit" or "Burgerlike Diens Eenheid" in Afrikaans.

Unfortunately in my extensive documentation and searching Google, I can find almost nothing on this unit.

Does someone know what this unit did?
Was it part of the CPS (Civil Protection Service)?
What other insignia did they wear apart from these shoulder titles? (I suspect a general service corps cap badge)

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Steven
