Fort Garry Horse gold leaf repro?
At a local show Saturday, I came across a C50 type Fort Garry Horse, gold leaf, which (although exceedingly pretty) just didn't feel right.
I didn't buy this badge given the reservations, so no pics, but the badge was a lugged, bi-metal badge, with the leaf seeming to be cast, not stamped. Bill Miller thought it seemed light compared to his recollection of his sample of this badge. Rather than the wires holding the overlay, this one had two round 1-1.5 mm holes, like sweat holes, but looked to be drilled and no sign of solder or attachment therein. The back of the leaf also showed some slight grinding marks. Beyond that, no maker mark, but sure looked sweet & was well-crafted. It sticks in my mind I've seen reference to a gold leaf Ft. Garry version repro. Anyone have any info on this, or any thoughts on the badge described? |

I think that these type of badges were used on the officers' cross belt pouches from the 1950s onward.

Not a great picture but here is a postwar FGH cross-belt.
