Default Dating of UDF shoulder title

I have the above set of shoulder titles but am confused as to the date thereof. Someone told me the Curson book says WW1 3rd SA Infantry brigade and the Owen book says WW2.

Has anyone access to any more information or to the above books.

Hi Andrew, I thought so and a friend of mine just sent me pics from the Owen book (2280 & 2281), but the Curson book, supposedly shows them as 1915+ WW1 SA 3 Infantry Brigade. I have no access to the Curson book.

Hi Richard, as with all books there are mistakes. This must be one in Cursons book. I am away at the moment and can't check my copy, but is definitely WW2. Regards Andrew

The look of the badges is more like other WW2 SA shoulder tabs, ie ones without buck heads, but here are Owens entries

Here are Curson's entries (which I just got) so I am confused.

Curson is incorrect here though I can understand the conclusion he made considering the buck head looks similar to the 3 SA Infantry collar badge from the First World War. IIRC these were unofficial titles made in Egypt or Italy. You get ones with or without the springbok head. I have also seen ones with Rhodesia or New Zealand in the same style.

My understanding, as you say they were sand cast and in Egypt.

From what I have heard these were certainly ww2 titles . A well known collector in Pretoria spoke to a veteran many years ago who told him they were mostly worn on Greatcoats . They had the unfortunate habit of snagging on other clothing because of the protruding bokkie's head
