New NFA Badge
Hi Guys
Finally managed to get a picture of the new NFA badge. Note the crown has disappeared. Not mine, still trying to get an example. Brian Last edited by Brian Conyngham; 04-12-15 at 06:29 PM. |

Is there a variation between yours above and this one?

Not sure, have been promised one but I'm sure it is metal. I will try and source a few but cannot promise anything just yet. Brian |

Yes, the new one is smaller than your example and of course the crown has finally been removed. Policy of the new SA Government that all imperial/colonial symbols must be removed.....not sure why the lion has remained, as that was a symbol of the previous government, the lion had his paw on 4 cylinders tied together representing the 4 old provinces, we now have 9 since 1994! Maybe a sneaky "oversight" ? Sadly the quality of the badge is not the best, hopefully will get my hands on one soon, will then be able to get a close up look. Brian |

Thanks for posting the new NFA badge. At least they've retained most of the old badge but the finish is pathetically poor. To me the crown always looked odd on the axle of the wheel. I much prefer the version where the crown is on top. Are balkies being worn again now or is that a regimental distinction?
I'm always surprised at the various governments trying to get rid of former, historical symbols. I always wondered how Prince Alfred's Guard managed to survive the Erasmus era with a very Royal name and a very tribal badge. |
