Default York & Lancs Regt badges

Hi all,
Just joined and interested in Yorkshire Regiments. I’m trying to find out info on the cap and collar badges of the 3rd Militia Battalion of the York and Lancs regt. Were the badges in white metal rather than the bi-metal of the regular battalions? Can anyone shed any light on this, Please?

Regards
Steve

Hello Steve and welcome to the forum.

Yes, as a militia the collar badges were white metal. Please see attached pictures (from the Y&L museum).

Hi Steve the the 3rd Bn wore the same as the regular battalions but wore 3 over Y&L white on black on there left arm, the VBs have two types of badges with 1st or 2nd VB on and pre 1903 no 1st and 2nd VB on

Default York & Lancs badges

Many thanks Peter and Ivan for the info and photos they have been most enlightening and informative.
If I can just add a question regarding the KOYLI cap badge, did they change to the all white metal badge before or after the second world war? I have a book - Regimental badges and service caps (1941) which shows the KOYLI badge as bi-metal but I have seen a book - cap badges of the British Army 1939-1945 which shows the badge to be white metal.

Regards
Steve

The KOYLI changed to a white metal cap badge circa 1949/50.
