Default Irish badges

Hi all seen a few badges on Ebay a while ago bid on them thinking one was an unusual Officers, am happy with it but thought you might like to see it as it started life as a 5th Dragoons Shoulder Title you can make out the "D" on the brass plinth was this a common occurance? Or lack of obtaining an Officers type badge and "make your own"?

The Irish Rangers Pipers badges, left one am happy about the one on the right has me concerned! Is it a different earlier pattern or a copy this one is easily bent ???

Just to confirm Officers collar R.I.Rangers, Cloth Officers Caubeen badge (is it real?), lastly Officers cap badge? To which Inniskillings, ???

Many thanks billy, any comments welcome.

Billy both piper's badges look OK. The bullion badge is an officer's mess dress collar. Also a type with "R. IRISH RANGERS" on scroll. The S/G type was worn by WO's and SGT's on mess dress. There is also a type with non voided stings and "ROYAL IRISH RANGERS" on scroll. I always associate the two piece collar with makers mark with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

Hi Danny, it is a Slim Castle, the "Inniskillings Scroll" without markings being used on the 5th Dragoons Shoulder Title, what of that, it appears Silver? Do you like the job the bloke has done on it?

Thanjs for validating the Pipers badge, left is solid but the righr! well flimsy - scared of breaking it!

Not seen this before, certainly not wide spread. Not sure it would have been permitted to wear such a badge.

An enigma and am happy with members thoughts! With the Scroll I think Officers but this could be added later to make it up? What would it have been worn on and when could it have been usedWW1 or WW2 ? Any thoughts on thst one welcome!

The castle/5DG title was introduced in the 1930s.

Thanks Danny, didn't know that, so Hex - lugs don't date a title to WW1 era then! as I have been assuming! I really have to sort these and frame them, but keep hanging on!

Thanks for posting Billy

The combination of Scroll with separate modified 5DG title
The scroll, as you probably know, was used first by officers of The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, then The Royal Irish Rangers and latterly The Royal Irish Regiment. I have never seen it worn with anything other than its intended castle pair (as in the image below). It is possible that the combo. in the lot you bought was put together by a collector or dealer and never worn together on a uniform. Was their any provenance with it?

The last badge (pictured below) appears to be a collar badge to me not a cap badge. What are the dimensions?

John

Hi John, sorry for delay, the Scroll - 21mm x 7.7mm, the Castle 19.75mm x 14.86mm these are the marked to rear.

The other Scroll - 21.25mm x 7.80mm this is unmarked.

Long time, hows it going?

All the best for now billy
