Odd Metal badge
Hi Gents,
Found this lurking in the bottom of a tin with my Grandfathers WW1 oddments. Any ideas? Thanks Kevin |

Cannot identify it, but appears to be a dug piece, possibly from the battlefield????

I was thinking Volunteer Rifles but of the headgear as kepi with plume.

The straight edge to the left makes me think half of a buckle or removed from a trophy.
The lightening bolts below the Kepis have a Italian feel to me? Kev is the badge white metal? Regards Stephen |

I don't think they are lightning bolts, they look like pennant flags or a part of the webbing.

I take the flashes / pennons to be part of the ribbons on the bugle, the straight edge suggested belt locket but the metal's thin and the outline isn't rounded.

Hi All,
Thanks for looking at this odd badge/buckle. I have given it a gentle clean which has brought out some more detail, in particular the ribbons below the Kepi, the damage top left and the rear of the barrel which looks like it`s a flintlock of some kind. Steve the metal is a brass/copper colour which you can see best around the damaged area. Kevin |

I've no idea what it is other than the Volunteer Rifles suggestion - but I like it.
