It now seems that the brown union locket belt was worn by some New Zealand soldiers on Gallipoli .This photo dated 6 August 1915 on Big Table Top

From time to time ,you see a WW1 era/territorial soldier pictured wearing a pre 1912 volunteer badge .Here is Private William Henry Gason 4/4248 wearing a 1903 Glengarry badge for the South Canterbury Rifle Battalion ,Oldhams 2/149

K.I.A 12th October 1917,Passchendaele.

While many Australians served in the New Zealand forces ,and vice versa ,this is the first time I've seen a Australian Forces badge worn by a reinforcement .

The D8 badge (and bandolier equipment)worn by the trooper on the left indicates this group is from the Otago Mounted Rifles ,8th reinforcements.

There were two Australian in that unit ,Arthur Wood 9/1620 and Raymond Williamson 9/1631 .The later had served six months in the Melbourne Rifles, previously.

This D9 (Otago Company ,9th reinforcements), private, wearing a small crown over his D9 cap badge .This particular reinforcement frame was never crowned ,so he putting his own particular twist on it .Just another example of the non conformity of NZEF reinforcement badge wearing
