Sherwood Foresters Officer’s Forage & Collar badges
Hi all,
A couple of different manufacturing styles and finishes on Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Officer’s forage cap badges and collar badges. The central Silver & Gilt cap badge is maker marked behind the crown by Firmin London and has gilt Sherwood Foresters central wreath and titles with E-W loops. The KC cap badges date from 1 Oct 1902 (8 Nov 1902 for 1st Batt as in Hong Kong) through to 1952. Variations are noted in the relative size of the King’s crown but these unlike collar badges are not found with larger Edwardian crowns (1902/03-1910) as shown. Officers KC cap and collar badges are always voided for the crown and centre for the regular battalions with the exception of plastic badges. VB and Militia battalions are generally non-voided. Royal Blue centres were worn from late Victorian times for Officers. Some collars shown here are voided with no Royal Blue backing plate. Collars are either ‘Chasers’ or ‘Facers’ with earlier Victorian patterns often being worn as a chasing pair. There are Derbyshire KC cap badges dating to just 1902 before the change of title. I should like to find a better example of the left hand collar badge of the central pair than my damaged example if anyone has a spare. Any other patterns I would also be pleased to be offered. Cheers Dean.

Superb lot there. I am especially fond of the blue enameled types.
