Default white metal badge for ATS?

I just read that the ATS wore an all white metal ATS cap badge on the new side cap, or were supposed to anyway. Is that true?

If so I am going to be needing one for my ATS collection, and wonder how hard real ones are to come by?

Thanks,

Terry

I have never heard of it or seen one.

Found this Terry, no idea if it's an original item or not?

Thank you gentlemen,

I too have not heard of such. I know of that badge on EBay, but somewhere I read that the white metal badge was to be worn with the new side cap, but cannot remember where.

I do know about the small silver cap badge that was worn initially, and are numbered, and I already have one of them.

I have learned my lesson and prefer getting badges from solid dealers and members of this forum.

Bottom line on this, unless I find something more convincing I'm not going to worry about getting one of these.

Thanks again,

Terry

I have a couple of these ATS badges so here is a question or two:-

Could a member of the ATS be attached to a Armoured unit/division HQ etc and wore a white metal/chromed badge as did many units??

When the ATS were allowed out of barracks again would they not have a "walking out" badge again like male soldiers ??

Jerry.

Here are mine including a chromed one, although I've yet to see a WM cap badge.
Cheers

Good afternoon.

Just to add (although you probably know already) some of the ATS at Sandown Park did wear a w/m badge that being a Welsh Guards leek badge on the right breast pocket.

More food for thought here. My stating white metal may be the same as the chromed one, but the bit I read about it said white metal (sorry I don't remember where). Perhaps I need to get one after all!!! If so does anybody have one or is he one on EBay look good?

If they did wear a chromed badge, would it have been something they had done some where or were they made as chromed badges?

Thanks all,

Terry

OK then, I found my source for the chrome badge being worn on the new FS cap. I found a picture of a poster like image with ATS insignia. One of the ones they show is the chrome cap badge, and it says to the affect - "For wear with the FS cap (unofficial)".

Not really sure how good this source is, but I did go in and get the one off EBay - figured for the price better to have it than need it later, and that is the only one I've ever seen offered, where as fakes are offered in he bazillions!

There is a possibility that one or more of the ATS bands wore a chromed cap badge. If you google ATS band there are several Getty images which show very ‘bright’ or perhaps just well polished badges.

While searching for pictures of ATS chromed/WM/silver/etc badges I came across this picture but cannot make out the Formation sign on the arms of these RA/ ATS plotters at work at Coastal Artillery Headquarters in Dover, December 1942.
Can you Id this please?

Jerry

The oak, the ash and the elm - 12 Corps.

And no, it's not the elm is it? The thorn.
