Hi Phil
No idea mate, but isn’t that Southall Gas Holder in the background? Might be a clue if it is. BCNU Graham

Phil, He appears to have black buttons. Probably a rifle regiment?

How'd you do that? I used to live right slap bang next to the Old Kent Road Gasworks but I'd never be able to pick it out in a line-up.

Rifles is a good call, I hadn't noticed the black buttons and his cap badge does appear to be roundish (from whats left of it).
I was thinking RAF. Cheers all so far.

I think that the cap badge is that of the Artist's Rifles. It is distorted by the reflection on the leather hat band.

Looks like an informal photo taken from late 1945 onwards with exposed button BD and worn with collar open and possibly a tie. The buttons may appear black but note the white on khaki Lance Corporal stripe with an SD cap and light/white blanco'd belt. Cap badge is blurred but possibly an RE or RASC LCpl??

I think that the photograph is over exposed and was probably taken on leave hence the relaxed pose.

Not many pixels to play with but this might help.
