Memory letting me down. What is the significance between the QOCH cap badges having CAMERON scroll and those without scroll. Couldn't trace anything in K&K

Im no expert on Scottish stuff. But i believe the scrolless is to do with the sporran.

Scrolless was early Victorian pattern badge. The scrolled version was the later pattern.

These are my earlier badges without scrolls. The top is the 1880s/90s OR version which is essentially the same as the badges with the scroll added.
The bottom left is a silver plated example, possibly for an officer Pagri, but not necessarily. The bottom right is a WM OR, likely for the Humel bonnet. As you can see, the earlier badges were smaller.
It should be realized that even with the 1897 date for changing over to the added Cameron scroll, the older no scroll badges were apparently still worn for quite some time. I might add that there is some confusion regarding the early headdress badges and the later Sporran badges, although there is a slight difference and usually the Sporran badge will have a different fitting.
