Moustaches - Army Orders
Read recently that sometime in 1916 (September, I believe), an Army Order was published, according to which, the shaving of the upper lip was made optional.
Is this correct, and can anyone cite the particular A.O. in question, and/or perhaps even provide a facsimile thereof? With thanks, JT |

Issued 8th October 1916 by Lt. Gen. Nevil Macready, that's all I could find.

AO 340 1916
Regarding AO 340 1916, as mentioned previously, this order carries amendments to Kings Regs.
Paragraph 4 of the order relates to an amendment instruction for paragraph 1696 of KRs, it refers to line 2 of that paragraph and instructs 'Delete "but not the upper lip". As my KRs are in a box somewhere, I'm unable to look this up for you at the moment. George |
