Scottish Glengarry badges....
Why don't they have crowns on the top of the roundel ??
Pre TF Glengarry badges all had crowns on top. All my KLR Vol Bn glengarry badges have crowns .....except the 8th (Scottish) Vol Bn ...? |

Never seen a picture of one being worn but one I had appeared to be a genuine badge joined to a genuine crown.

With respect, I've never believed in it. It may well be a genuine badge and a genuine crown but poorly soldered together.
No, I have'nt seen a crowned badge in paintings or photographs. So, I'm still wondering why Scottish (Glengarry) badges never have a crown atop! |

It may be because only two Scottish regiments wore the circular, or roundel, badge in the helmet - the Royal Scots and King's Own Borderers and their VB's may not have been designated as such before the regiments stopped wearing them and adopted the well known cap badges.
You may come across a crowned 'roundel' to the RV's, which later became the VB's, I have one to the 2nd Lancs RV which became the 1VB East Lancs. Neil |
