"M" badges.

I recently found these items I'd forgotten about,stashed away in a draw.There are 4 of these M badges with brass blades.Has anyone any idea what they were used for?
They came as part of a Victorian mixed lot,which also included the rosette and the pouch badge,along with some bits of QSA ribbon.

I cannot judge the size from the photos, but they appear to the Militia M as worn on officer shoulder straps.

Thank you for the information,I wasn't aware they wore an additional badge on their rank insignia.The M is about half inch high,and the blades about an inch long.

In the Militia Artillery officers wore the M in Service Dress, below the OSD collar badge with no “ubique”, nor scroll,1902-09.

The longer blades seem to be applied to go through the gold shoulder straps of a full dress uniform.
