Is it the words RED CROSS or just a separate red cross?

Red Cross Dress Regulations August 1945 specify the title "British" with " a red cross on a white ground sewn 2 inches below the flash". There is no mention of a further "Red Cross" title which the red cross made superfluous.

At a later date county names and detachment numbers were worn below the red cross as per the attached scan.
