Thane of Fife : what is this badge ?
Hello,
i have got this badge in 1986 from L.V. ARCHER as an extra with an order. It is die-struck in brass, two parts, lugs in brass.(70mmx70mm). What do you think about it ? Yeomanry or Police ? Thank you beforehand for your comments. Stay safe. Jean-Marie |

Found a post on another site :
"The subtle differences between the Thane badge of the Fife & Forfar Yeomanry (left) and that of Fife Constabulary. "

Hi Jean-Marie
It doesn't appear to be in John Green's book on Scottish police insignia. The 'Thane' looks like that of the Fifeshire Constabulary, perhaps it was used by the fire brigade (in the early days many were run by the police), or perhaps worn by the force pipe band (if they had one)? There are more knowledgeable police collectors on here so hopefully they'll chip in their thoughts. All the best Graham
