K&K 1363 does not compare with the explanation in K&K which states that the badge is in Gilding metal. Silver could have been a private buy but the badge as shown is for OR's. It does look good though but no thoughts as to where, why or what for.
All the best, Jim

Hi, anyone can cast a badge in silver, pure or otherwise, and mark it silver. This badge would appear to fall into this category, best wishes Mike

Interesting badge. What are it's dimensions?

Being made in silver could suggest an NCOs arm badge although I do not know what design if any the Sharpshooters wore.

I don't like it at all. The quality is inferior to any OR's badge I have seen let alone an officers.

I too have one of the these CLY collars marked as 'silver'.

Whilst it would have been nice to think it was an an officer's personalised piece, I lean toward it being replicated in recent times by a silversmith with a penchant for making models of armoured vehicles in silver for mess tableware etc.

My understanding is that this badge was made in 'brass' for other ranks and 'brass' with the Sharpshooter scroll in 'white metal' for officers. This scroll was attached to the body of the badge by two pins that were peened over after insertion.

The give away for the numerous fakes of the OR badge is that an officer badge has been used as the pattern and the witness marks of a separate scroll piece and the peened over ends are visible on the reverse.

That evidence is also apparent on the all silver badge depicted in this thread.

Hi Peter, the northern gent you refer to actually makes better copies than this. He has had some of his work hall marked, so he can produce high quality work if he wants. His RTR badge was produced for private purchase and hall marked, though he does like tanks and maybe this one was a labour of love, best wishes Mike
