Not as new as I thought: 31 Jan 2011. But it is now included on the ADM (MAT) list of cloth cap badges. PDF, would you like a copy?

I think it is this unit, and some personnel at the school.

Interesting unit. High tech and dangerous tasks.

While it wasn't specifically approved as a "cap badge" here is a more detailed view of the unit's badge.

Cap badge
From the CGCS, Canadian Government Cataloguing System
ITEM NAME: INSIGNIA,HEAD-DRESS Characteristic Reply DESIGN DESIGNATION CF JOINT NUCLEAR,BIOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL DEFENCE COMPANY ATTACHMENT METHOD SEW-ON SPECIAL FEATURES J-METALLIC AND COLOURED EMBROIDERY ON BLACK MELTON BACKGROUND; PADDED Although not specifically or originally a cap badge, I am curious about it's use as one. Has anybody seen it in use as one? Or was this just somebody's good idea that hasn't been adopted? |

I think that is a good question. I have reviewed a copy of the Ordnance Stores catalogue ammended to 1963 (?) for insignia and there are badges listed there-in that were never made or issued.

My understanding is that personnel posted to the Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit simply wore their own branch/regimental insignia.
This looks like a unit badge similar to any of the CF schools or specialized units, CFCMU, 1 ESU for example. Apparently the CBRN Operator has its own MOSID. Perhaps they are a trade with a new branch cap badge. http://www.forces.gc.ca/en/about-pol...uclear-op.page Ottawa Citizen article on the "new" occupation. http://ottawacitizen.com/news/nation...ions-expertise Phil

Apropos nothing. I attended the three-week NBCW course for Mobile Units (Officers) way back in 1975. It was held at the NBCW scool at CFB Borden

CBRN Ops, although they have their own MOSID do not have a badge for their trade. Much like CSOR and the Assaulter MOSID, they continue to wear their affiliated Regiment/Unit insignia.
I heard that a specialist badge for CBRN Operators is in the works, if not already issued. (I heard of it last February) |
