Default Guess the unit?

Or rather can anyone help ID these troops on the NW Frontier in 1938?

Bought cheaply and with plenty of Sun helmets included I could not resist from the bay and as the only bidder all good, except I can't make out the one ST shown or the too far away views of the cap badges in a few pics. The sun helmets show a darker band at the top of the pug except in one which shows an interesting pattern of sewing the pug up at sides as well as at the front and rear. I know to some this would be enough to ID the unit but I am not one of them.

Some good pics of the frontier barrier and of some native troops!

Also a nice pic of carved onto slab badges and one pic says Cherat, India, on the reverse, the one with the dog. One blurry pic shows bagpipes and drums.

It appears you could be correct Paul, thanks for looking and answering. The badge on the front of the sun helmets is roughly the correct shape for them.
