Default Cameron Highlanders Ottawa No Cross?

This just arrived with a lot of Canadian Scottish / Highland Regt badges. The Saint has no cross, its made from brass and has 4 fold over tangs, can anyone tell me what it may be for? Slightly larger than the cap badge.

Those types of fasteners are usually associated with leather or fabric, so a cross belt badge, or sporran, or pouch badge?

Yes, I assumed so as well, curious though that the cross is missing from the item.

This badge is certainly a mystery! As you mentioned, it's not complete given the absence of the Saint Andrew's cross. As Bill observed, the 4 tangs/tabs are indicative that it may have been intended for attachment to a leather accessory, such as a pouch or cross belt.

I suggest that you contact the CH of O museum in Ottawa for further info. The following link provides details:

Good luck,

Walt

I am a member of the CH of O and am involved with the museum. I have never seen this type of badge before. We do not wear that badge on any of our sporrans, That style is only worn on headdress. I do not know why it would be made without the cross, it must be a mistake. We have not ever (to my knowledge) had a 2 part badge, even officers.
The Regt is shut down till summer and I am not sure if the guys go into the museum but I will talk to them and see if i can get any answers.

Colin
