Flower looks like Edelweiss , crossed broomsticks suggest curling so possibly a Swiss/Austrian connection ?

Jon, thank you for starting this tread.

Some additional information on this badge, see also attached pictures:
This badge was worn by a Dutch female 2nd lieutenant (single star on collar) of the Dutch Women's Auxiliary Corps (Vrouwen Hulpkorps VHK).
Orange rank stars were worn from October 1945 until November 1946, after that replaced by silver stars.
The brass lion beret badge was worn from January 1943 until April 1948, the Dutch national sleeve badge (lion with Nederland) was introduced for the VHK in April 1944.
The enamelled red cross on white circle on shoulder straps was worn from June 1944 until April 1948.
The cloth shoulder title "VHK" (orange on brown) was worn from 1946 until April 1948.

Although the silver bullion star and shouder title are shown in the picture with badge, it's not clear wether these are actually worn on the black and white picture.

So the time frame of the unknown shoulder badge in post #1 is either October 1945 - November 1946 OR November 1946 - April 1948 (which is more likely to me), so early post war.

The badge is certainly not Dutch, an Swiss/Austrian as suggested by Mike isn't likely either. Could it be Belgium or French badge?

Richard.

Very interesting thread.

Richard, do you think the Red Cross badge indicates a nurse?

Thanks,

Terry

The red cross was worn by both VHK and Prinses Irene Brigade during WW2, indicating medical trained personnel, so yes nurses in VHK.

The shoulder badge in post #1 is a total mystery to me, any ideas?

Regards,

Richard

On youtube there a little film on Anne van Trikt from Suriname, who was a nurse in the VHK during WW2: https://youtu.be/HfQcK3peLHI
Just in case someone is interested.

Perhaps the Municipal shield of a Dutch city where her unit was stationed?

If the badge is certainly not Dutch, any idea why she was wearing it?
