Default Unidentified Blackened Fouled Anchor Button.

Can anyone identify this button please?
It measures about 14 mm across.
It has raised lettering on the reverse but I can only make out one or two letters.
A continental look to it?

Hi Leigh,

With the design and button shank it looks very French. Possibly WW1 or thereabouts. Colonial Infantry or Marines?

Hope this helps!

Found this :

Marine infantry button model 1871

Domed button adopted from 1871 by the marine infantry.
On the back there is the inscription: AM& Cie PARIS
The rope is wound differently under the anchor, this is one of the variations.
Diameter: 23mm
Google - Buton Troupes de Marine

I got 50% of the answer....I think that the "casque Adrian" uses a version of this to the front.

Yes, I have one of those with the fouled anchor pinned on the front (the anchor, as opposed to the anchor on disc badge).
