There is a well known photo of Devon officers in Razmak 1924 wearing the XI flash I posted. I can only assume that this flash was in wear for at least some time prior to that, so while the diamond flash in question may still have a Devon connection, it is looking rather doubtful.

Upon further research, the diamond, or lozenge flash in that shade of green is without doubt the Worcesters and was worn into WW2. Prior to WW1, the Worcesters FSH flash was a green square with an collar badge affixed, but this changed either during the war or just after.
I think one can only go by empirical evidence here. The number is only partially legible and could even be erroneous. For myself, I can't put much store by it. CB
