Default Higher Gunnery Rates, R.N.V.R.

Hi,
Does anyone know what these badges look like?
Patterns 23, 24, 25 worn by Higher Gunnery Rates and Gunnery Rates of the RNVR.
Thanks
Barry

As far as I know, CPO'S didn't wear their rate badges, just their rank, ie: 3 buttons on the cuff. Other than that, as far as I know the RNR & RNVR rate badges were the same as RN.
Cheers,
Alex

Barry,

The following is taken from Uniforms & Insignia of the Navies of World War II, compiled by US Naval Intelligence with an introduction by Andrew Mollo.
The book is based upon JAN1, Joint Army and Navy Publications, Uniforms and Insignia [Washington DC, 1943-45].

The badges for gunnery 1st class are:-
Crossed Guns.
Star above, star below - Director Layer, Gunlayer.
" " " & letter Q below - Quarters Rating.
" " " " " L " - Layer Rating.
" " " " " C " - Control Rating.
" " " " " A " - Anti-Aircraft Rating.
" " " " " P " - Gunnery Instructor, Patrol Service.
I am including Gunner's Mate here which was Crossed Guns with crown above & star below, but have not included DEMS or Boom Defence as these are not shown with classes.

Rangefinder.
Star above star below - Rangetaker.

Second class for the Crossed Guns badges are the same but with the ommission of the star below.

Third class badges are a Gun with star above & letters below.

David.
