League of Frontiersmen
Calling on Canadian and Yeomanry collectors for this one! I always thought it was a Canadian unit? F Wilkinson (Cavalry & Yeomanry Badges of the British Army 1914) shows it (page 49/240) amongst the Colonial and Overseas badges but there is no detail with it! Was it linked the the British Yeomanry establishment or has he made an error?

I'm sorry Andy I don't have any proof but I was of the understanding that it was a UK unit that we copied. But surely your badges would be more common than ours if that was so. Ray

Actually "Legion" not "League", the attached is from "Kitcheners Army" by Westlake and is a potted history.

I am not sure how that particular badge is a Canadian one. Canadian badges, until the 1950's were almost all lugged unless they were made in the UK. The Frontiersmen had commands in the UK and most of the Dominions and Colonies. Badges may have been "centrally" obtained from a UK supplier and then sent to the far flung Commands.
A good site for the history of the Legion of Frontiersmen can be found at the Frontiersmen Historian. |

Thanks Guys,
I got "League" from the reference I quoted, I think I'll pull this one from my listings! Best regards - Andy |
