1st Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps (HELP)
I am attaching two photo’s of my wife's father who was lost at the River Ronco Italy 26 Oct 1944. (killed 17 day after wife’s birth) He was a sergeant with the 1st Bn KRRC. I have been searching for info on clothing in the photo. I’m hoping you may be able to help.
Questions: 1. What would be the colour of this clothing? 2. I have been unable to identify the head wear type or colour and specifically what appears to be badges and buttons? 3. What would be the colour of the sergeant strips? 4. Within the stripes appears to be some sort of emblem, would you know what this would be? We have two metal KRRC emblems? and a red disc with fathers name ect. Where were these worn? I have contacted the KRRC association via email, but after several weeks have had no reply. Hoping you may be able to help. |

Peering at my phone Khaki Battle Dress uniform, a regimental "side cap" in dark green rather than khaki, which would bear a blackened brass (or wartime black plastic) crown over Maltese cross cap badge on red cloth backing & two black horn crown over stringed bugle buttons.
Black on red sergeants chevrons (I can't see a badge or emblem between, if you mean a "texture" that's the black chevrons with a "v" herringbone weave on the red backing). If steel with name & number on the small discs may be identity discs, usually of red & green composite but of steel in areas of hot, damp climate. Edit - apologies, Ive reread your post - you say a red disc, that'll be an identity disc, the KRRC emblems may be shoulder titles. I may be wrong but without checking I think the titles may have been KRR at that time. Last edited by leigh kitchen; 23-09-17 at 03:11 PM. |

I don't know if this is of any use but I've had it for years, I'm sure someone will be able to say if it's correct for your photo and perhaps someone knows when this man served from his number.

It looks like he has slip-on shoulder titles on his shoulder straps, example attached and above his chevrons he has a rifle green strip of cloth known as an arm of service strip, copy also attached.
His uniform would be approximately the same colour as the KRR slip-on title I have attached. The shade of this uniform known as battle dress varied enormously. Jon |

KRRC
Here is an example of the KRRC Serjeant's chevrons (stripes).
Black on red worn on both upper arms of the Battle Dress blouse (jacket). Around his left shoulder he is wearing a black lanyard with Turks Head Knots and clipped into his top pocket. Tim
