I have the diary of P C Evans-Freke.... and how they transported their own horses by sea. They did manage to procure the odd one whilst in SA..... F W Martin found a small grey mare out there and loved her so much he brought her back. Her grave is not far away from me.

Nice picture of the 7 DG. They wore the white metal lion with a long slider on the Brodrick. The earlier versions had 3 lugs.

I would be very surprised indeed, if that fellow was a member of a cavalry regiment.

I would certainly be very interested to see an example, if anyone has one they can show.

I have the lugged version. I sold my long slider version some years ago.

Here you go. Three looped versions were also worn as badges.

Very nice indeed, I particularly like the example on the left, it is a badge that I have not got and certainly one that I do not think that I have ever seen to actually buy either

Okay, many thanks Alan, so reading your link, the example you sold, was it converted to a slider or originally made with one?

I had, or may still have somewhere an example with braize applied in preparation for loops but with a slider, or alternatively the loops removed. Datable pretty close to 1906 I'd have thought as the pattern changed soon after.
