A long shot, but could the (chicken headed) fox represent the British 5th Corps badge from WWI?

It does have that sort of age to it, I was wondering what sort of animal it was. Great quality constructed item

My first thoughts too , are the colors significant ( green /Red ) to a particular unit ?

Maybe not such a long shot , the 5th Army used the 'flying fox' with a white tip to its tail . Info/photo taken from "Divisional and Other Signs by V. Wheeler-Holohan."

Also , the 'white tip' was used on later O.C.A badges.
