Inniskilling fusiliers
Could you please give me your thoughts on this badge.
Poor detail to reverse. Thanks in advance. Chris A685AC2A-72C7-45FC-BE9E-2BC1A0A381E3.jpg F98F2141-144C-4E86-A5F5-0BF99D307251.jpg |

In my opinion genuine. There has been some debate about what constitutes a genuine badge with this pattern. I know some members felt the sort where there was a slight aperture between scroll ends and towers was good I’m not convinced.
As you can see from the pictures in KK and Gaylor the scroll ends and towers are fully annealed. The proximity of the flag to the RH scroll is also a match compared to the version described above. My badge has these features and is also a very thick strike with limited reverse detail and a cut down slider. Additionally it’s condition and patina feels period. If I can find it I’ll pot a picture. So I think yours is fine too. Last edited by Luke H; 19-02-20 at 01:04 AM. Reason: Error, the badge is actually a fake. See post #10 |

I think, just from the photographs, it is not original.

Thanks guys for your feed back.
It’s always good to hear what people with more experience have to say. Am over halfway through with my suspect badges. Chris |

I dont reply to quite a few badge requests seeking authenticity for the very reasons that this badge sums up.
Basically I just dont know!!!! There are some real badges that are poorly made, badly kept or just badly photographed that you might think are fakes but are real. Then there are fakes, restrikes, fantasy badges that you may think genuine. Its a very difficult area and getting harder I am afraid. You have two opposite opinions on this badge and thats how it is on some badges. regards

Hi simon.
Your answer made me smile, if your having problems I am thinking what chance have I. However that said, the fact your not sure is in its self helpful. I keep all badges anyway, those that are obvious fakes ( to the forum ) I make a note of what’s wrong with it. Every time some one puts a badge up for discussion I try and work out if it’s good or not. Very high failure rate, but I am gradually getting better. Thanks Chris |

It’s very nice to be digital and know ‘it is’ or ‘it isn’t’ for peace of mind with a badge but there are many that people will disagree on or be 50-50. I will endeavour to find my badge tonight and post a picture for comparison. |

My badge with a cut down slider. The patina, age and old grime on the back all look correct.
And whilst the resolution of the badges pictures in KK and Gaylor are poor the shape, proportions and proximities of features such as turret/scroll and flag etc. look a match. Added all together I’m happy it’s genuine. |

Thanks for posting your pictures, yours looks better than mine.
One thing I have learnt is I need to take betters photos. Trying to compare my photo against yours was not easy ( I am working away from home at present) Will have a better look when I get home. Appreciate you taking time and effort to put your photos up. Chris. |

Yes indeed. Having a closer look it doesn’t compare well to mine and isn’t from the same die like I initially thought. Your photo is at a wee bit of an angle from below and slightly offset but I can see the flag is much further away from the turrets. Which isn’t right. Obviously the reverse detail as well is somewhat different. Afraid I don’t like it, sorry. Can you post closer up more straight on pics?
... Found it. Your badge is this type of fake which I’d forgotten has similar scrolls sitting flush to the turrets. Indeed I believe this fake is the reason some of the badges with the notched turrets/scrolls we’re preferred by members in the thread I mentioned in post #2. Luke, I think I will mark this one up as a dud. In future will ensure I take better pictures.
What do you think of the VB queens badge I posted at same time as this one. I don’t like it but want you guys to take a look. It’s hard to explain what I don’t like about it. Your thoughts as always appreciated. Chris. |

Inniskilling Fusiliers
Well here as promised are my two, the first will always keep to the "Left", this has been with me for ages and Slider tells of its hard life as do all the "Dings" and there are many!
The second will always be on the "Right"came with an Auction Lot, was happy to have found it in there, but slight differences from the first in sizes, slider, some Points of detail, some of which I like on this than on the first and some on the first I like better than on this second badge - pity can't marry them all together! If one or both of these are wrong, fair enough perhaps they may be used for comparison to help others seeking clarification, being both different dies, check out the Flags width of stripes! Enjoy and Sapper hooe this may help your badge, its getting to be a difficult hobbie with amount of copies which like you I keep for comparison, gap fillers (will never afford the price of WW1 Volunteer Pals Battalion badges! |
