"Insignia of the Foreign units that served under british command in ww2"

Default MHS Journal

Has an index ever been published to the MHS journal?

Many articles relating to badges have appeared in the Medal News magazine. An index to these appears in the Annual 'Medal Year Book' published by Token Publishing.

Over the years many badge related articles have appeared in the learned JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY FOR ARMY HISTORICAL RESEARCH

for example:
AUTUMN, 1951. VOL. XXIX. NO. 119. Some Military Band Badges
SUMMER, 1952. VOL. XXX. NO. 122. Badges: The North Staffordshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales's 64th/98th)
SUMMER, 1954. VOL. XXXII. NO. 130. Welsh Militia Regiments, 1757-1881: Their Badges and Buttons.
September 1957. Vol. XXXV. No 143. Artillery badges.
SEPTEMBER, 1966. VOL. XLIV. NO. 179. The Sergeants' Arm Badges of the 11th Hussars (P.A.O)
SUMMER, 1967. VOL. XLV. NO. 182. : The "Six Old Corps" and Their "Ancient" Badges.
SUMMER, 1968. VOL. XLVI. NO. 186. The Sergeants' Arm Badge of the 9th Royal Lancers.

An Index covering all articles from 1921 to 1990 has been published by the Society.

Their home page is here : http://www.sahr.co.uk/

hi thanks for that swift & bold
will construct a links page which will definitley have the two mentioned societies on it (MHS & SAHR) plus hopefully a stack of more online resources related to insignia once i find out what's 'out there'

I am not sure how the MHS publish their index (I am sure they do) , if "blizzard" reads this he may be able to tell us. (two of the three bound volumes I have have a 5 year index to match the period coved by that volume, but I dont know if that only applies to the bound volumes or not.

Red face A new book

Here's a book on badges that hasn't even been published yet. Perhaps it can be reviewed on the forum when it hits the bookshelves on 22 October 2007:

Wink A useful periodical

Another useful periodical (available only to members) is the 'Journal of the Military Heraldry Society' This is called 'THE FORMATION SIGN' . The Military Heraldry Society was formed in 1951 by Major John Waring to foster and encourage the study of collecting cloth formation signs.

The latest issue for July - September 2007 carries articles submitted by members covering cloth badges worn by the Royal Tank Regiment (RTR), Yeomanry Regiments which became part of the Royal Armoured Corps from 1947, the 79th Amoured Division (Hobbart's Funnies) and a range of other cloth badges worn by the amoured divisions of World War II.

Further details about the Military Heraldry Society included membership can be obtained from their membership secretary whose details can be found here :
http://www.army.mod.uk/contacts/divisions/heraldry.htm

p.s Their website seems to be out of action
