Anyone got any thoughts on this small cap?/collar eagle fitted with blades, I know it's faces the wrong way but if on a side cap it would look forwards.

Andy,
Nice low set wings compared to others and sought after, I believe produced for a short period only. I am sure some cavalry expert will know more. I do know a old collector who would covet these.

There is an image of a modified Officers collar S&G to cap badge in the Projects -British Cavalry Badges section, also illustrated is a small slidered OR's cap badge with the same low wings.

Interesting badge, as far as I am aware the 1st Royal Dragoons O/Rs did have such a badge for wear on the Field Service Cap, but these apparently had a slider fixing.
However, you say it has blades, so one might be tempted to assume is an Officers?, or the fixings have been altered?

Hi Andy

This type of Eagle was used by the Officers during the Great War in cap and collar. I would guess this was a collar...... probably started off bronzed and over time has lost its bronzed finish?

Thanks for the replies chaps, it's not been modified but made with blades as an OSD that has lost some of its colour and looks to be the same as in the pictures, I would still like to know if it's a collar or for use in a side cap if anyone has an answer.

As a rule bronzed cavalry cap badges are bladed, with the collars having lugs
