Default I RR

Hi all,

can anyone positively identify this title; 1 RR.

I know the CGA is the Cape Garrison Artillery.

Many thanks,

Hello Iain, It may depend on your location. IF the CGA was in my hands, it would likely be Canadian Garrison Artillery.
Sorry, no thoughts on the 1 RR.

Perhaps Rhodesia Regiment or Rhodesian Rifles?

Phil

Hi John,

thanks for the input.

Hi Phillip,

there was a 1 Rhodesia Regt and I've found in Owen's a 1 RR, No 3063 that looks like a match.

thanks.

regards,

Iain

Rhodesia Regiment would indeed sit well with the Cape Garrison Artillery as South African badges were often available in Rhodesia. My first thoughts were Rhodesia Regiment for RR but dismissed it as a brass shoulder title not going with camouflage, which was pretty well the standard uniform after the 'Royal' was dropped by the Rhodesia Regiment, I forgot there were a couple of other uniforms the 'RR' could be worn with.

I was of course thinking of more recent times.

Default 1RR

This certainly looks like the 1st Battalion Rhodesia Regiment from WW1 period - there was also a 2 Battalion. Also shown in Dudley Walls badge book.

Hi John,

whilst there were some very nice Rhodesian badges, I've deliberately stayed away from collecting them as there are too many SA badges I dont have; I dont possess one Rhodesian! I therefore am not familiar at all with their regiments. But a lot of Rhodesians did settle in SA and so its not a surprise to find the RR alongside the CGA.
I just think of looking there!

Ruwa, I dont have Dudley Wall's book tho' I've considered buying it but I'm confident it's a match for Owen's 3063.

Iain

Red face 1RR

Hi Iain, This was a helmut badge & not a shoulder title.
Cheers,

Ruwa

Hi Ruwa,

didnt realise it was a helmet badge!

Hi Dave,

as I said, I dont collect Rhodesian badges; this was for sale with the CGA and this was my interest but I'll take your word that its a cracking badge

best regards,

Iain

Sir Arthur was actually a Bugler and his regiment was disbanded upon the successful conclusion of the campaign in GWSA in 1915 having been raised the year before.
Some of it's members went on to serve in GEA and some in France.

The 1 RR is a One Rhodesia Regiment title from the First World War. There was also a 2 RR and a plain RR.
