tank corps badge

does any member know the value of an original brass tanks corps badge? it is the style that says tank corps on not fear naught and has a vertical brass cap clip on the back. i ahve tried to find similar items on e-bay but they show only restrikes..any help would be very useful..thks

Hi all, is this a good badge? There seems to be a lot of discussion on these. Also is it a cap or collar. When you look at it, the tank is going to the left.

As far as I know the cap badges were only made with a slider. I have only ever seen lugged copies.

The solid crown, size and direction of the tank would suggest a collar badge.

would be definitely a collar badge (L/H), with the way the Tank is facing here.
An O/R's variety.
There seems to be 2 basic styles of badges ,both in caps & collars. One type oval ,like this one & the more rounded style also.
Have an Officer's bronze collar of this style (RH) & O/R's caps in both styles. The oval one of these caps has a 'Lambourne' stamped slider. Named sliders are unusual for WW1 badges, generally, but often found for this particular manufacturer.

Chaps,

Genuine ORs ones are slidered. Officers badges are bladed. Bi metal badges are previously unknown. Lugged badges are a modern occurance.

Have to agree with Alan there.
A wise collector would look for a slidered brass o/r's badge.Rounded & oval patterns of these exist.
Generally,blades for Officer's bronze , lugs for Gilt versions, catch pins are an occasional alternative with these(sometimes prefered as an attachment by some Officers).
The silver tank on bronze seems to be a recent occurrence,but have seen 3 or 4 & a collar version also here. Possibly an 'affectation' by some Officers,even a post war variation,WO's pattern,etc, etc,but am very doubtful of any of these possibilities until some more solid(pictorial ?) evidence is found.

Hi, when you say gilt with lugs, do you mean G R Gaunt badge. I have one and am a bit suspicious of it. It measures about 1mm smaller than the bronze and a plated silver tank on the gilt also 1mm short has made the rounds.Not many were made and seem to have originated with a 70's dealer who was an expert on tanks.

Hi,just noticed your bronze 1923 badge. Is that a Firmin manufacture? Mine is a J&Co, I hadn't realised they had at least two runs for the bronze. Don't suppose you know how many badges were made? I only know of one other, unless you bought yours from Bosley's.

This is my genuine ORs Tank Corps, as pukka as they come... brass has aged that much it looks bronze like, fantastic slider adds to it even more... my bad photography and the artifical light can't do it justice.
