107th (Kings Own) Regt RAC
I recieved this badge through the post yesterday, sold as silver plated but in fact as I suspected is actually Chromed white metal though has some wear.
The Kings Own museum website seems to confirm that a chrome badge was worn by the 107th Regt RAC formerly 5th Bn KORL who by 1943 were reduced to a Cadre and went on to form the 151st Regt RAC with the then 10th Bn KORL. I am hoping in the future to pay a visit to the museum in Lancaster but in the meantime wandered if anyone knows if the Chromed badge was continued to be worn by the 151st. Would the badge be chromed over white metal, rather than over yellow metal.
I'm just guessing but thought there'd be no real reason to chrome a white metal badge. Again I may be completely wrong but to me the photo looks more like silver plate than chrome - may just be me....... |

Hi Liegh,
It is definately chrome and not silver plate, I have just searched through the KO website again and found the attached regarding the 151st which says they re-designated as 107th (Kings Own) Regt RAC which has now confused me a little. Does anyone have any info to confirm this? Paul |

I don't know if this is of any use, I got part way through cobbling the thread together some years ago & don't have a list of sources of info.
"151st Regiment 10th Bn The King's Own Royal Regiment – in December 1943 retitled 107th Regiment RAC, & discarding the RAC cap badge for that of The KORR)." "The converted infantry battalions which retained their old badges were: 107th Regiment, previously 5th Bn The King’s Own Royal Regiment (which wore The King’s Own cap badge but in chromed metal instead of gilding metal & without the red backing). The regiment was disbanded in 1943, & in December the 151st Regiment RAC (previously 10th Bn KORR) was renamed 107th Regiment RAC & changed its RAC cap badge to that of The KORR." http://gmic.co.uk/forums/topic/43656...comment-403805 Last edited by leigh kitchen; 24-05-15 at 05:00 PM. |

Thanks Leigh,
That seems to confirm what was on the WW2 History link on their website (rather than the individual Bn's links) that I just looked through. Paul David, I will email the museum Tuesday, unfortunately it isn't open at weekends. to confirm and if I cannot get a response I will make a visit when I get a chance. |

107 Regt RAC (King's Own)
I was hoping that the history of 107 Regt RAC (King's Own) would be more helpful. The relevant page doesn't add much to the store of knowledge but is attached. I don't have the book "Tank Twins" but that might be more helpful. Mike
