Default Can I Pick Your Brains Please?

Re: Tower Hamlets Rifles...

Hi all,

Could somebody please tell me why these badges are so expensive ? (I'm guessing it's because of low issue numbers maybe?)

Also, are they commonly faked - and if they are, what do I need to look out for to land a good 'un?

And finally, hope of hopes, does any Forum member have a spare that they'd be willing to sell to a pensioner with a dodgy knee/hip/chest etc. etc..... for a ruddy good price ?!?!

Many thanks for your patience!
Gary B

PS: Ricketts and rampant nasal hair too...

The THR is a fairly scarce badge but one I feel dealers do overhype in price.

In my experience some badges do carry a ‘ticket price’ that is beyond their scarcity. The other ranks Montgomeryshire IYs for example, often £120+ but the far scarcer Leinster 1916 all Gm often gets same price point roughly.

Back to the THR, you can sometimes get lucky with them being sold mistakenly as Rifle Brigade badges and pick them up cheaply.

My advice would be not pay over £60-65.

Thanks Luke - sound advice as always.
I must admit I've caught my breath a couple of times when I've seen what I thought were THR badges at fairs going for a tenner... before putting my glasses on and discovering they were Rifle Corps jobbies!
That's part of the fun of collecting I guess - the anticipation!
Thanks again Luke!

There is a genuine badge on eBay for £45, might be worth contacting the seller to see if you can strike a deal for a lower price.

I note this badge usually has a noticeable slider. Should the two loops at 6 o'clock be voided? Regards, Paul.

This one is mine - longer slider and better quality than the fake.
