Default Norfolk Yeomanry GVI Cap badge

Attached is the badge that was issued to, but never worn by my Grandfather who served in 259btry 65th Anti Tank Regiment the Norfolk Yeomanry. I have some NY buttons too and these were issued pre war. The badge is far superior to the badges with lugs offered on Fleabay etc. IMOO these badges are repro. My grandad and Gt Uncle were issued with these but wore RA badges by the time they went to North Africa. Some NY cypher replacement badges in NA were made by skilled members of the regiment and some cast locally. Some of this is documented in Bastins regimental history. My uncles badge was a locally cast version but much smaller and I no longer have it sadly. I suspect an ADCs shoulder cypher or similar badge was the ‘master’ used. I’ve seen and owned a number of these badges over the years but this is the only one I own now.

Hello Holyboy,

Thank you for showing your Grandfather's badge. The part you mention about your Uncle's cast badge is interesting in that they attract some collectors, while others shun them because they were not official issue. We know that past serving members wore issue and non-issue badges and as far as I am concerned it's stories like yours that make this an interesting hobby.

Nice badge. The one you show is an unmarked Firmin example.
