Lt R F G Overton CCF medal
Some time ago I asked if anyone had any info on this medal, and a forum member got back to me with this
Robin Francis Grosvenor Overton was born in Walsall, Staffordshire in October 1935.
He was Commissioned into the Combined Cadet Force as a Second Lieutenant in the St Lawrence College CCF Contingent (Ramsgate) on 30th January 1974 and was allocated the service number 497663.
Shortly after joining the CCF he moved to Langley School where he continued to serve in the CCF until 28th June 1996.
He was awarded the Cadet Forces Medal on 19th December 1986. I suspect that he was entitled to a bar to the CFM but never applied for it.
Well what a door opener this turns out to be, I have worked for the matron of Langley school, and she knew him and went on cadet camps with him, plus she has a lot of copies of the school magazine The Icenian. Number 238 tells us that after 15 years at Langley Robin is leaving to start a business consultancy, he started as a steam engineer, then teaching, a manager at a hotel, before becoming head of maths at Langley in 1978. Under his expert shooting teaching the school won the eastern district shield. He also ran the school tuck shop, and helped at many school events.
I am indebted to forum member oc14 , Paul ,for all his help and time , and it is with out doubt that it is people like him that make this hobby and forum so enjoyable.
